I have a love for words and the way people use them. Music is something that I truly appreciate more than most people and the way that artists orchestrate their lyrics - the way they mold words into such beautiful stories or truths - just gets me excited.
While I love albums and appreciating them in their entirety, I also have a love for the one liners of the music world - the phrases or even choruses that just stick in your head. The one liners that instantly turn your thoughts to existential matters or make you forget you are listening to a song because of the emotions or realities they provoke or address. They have their place and serve their purpose.
I would argue that the music that the 116 Clique is putting out right now has some of the greatest one liners anybody could ask for. Whether someone believes what I do or not, these phrases are just loaded with truth and a sense of purpose that are rivaled by few.
So I want to write about some of the lines that I find phenomenal. I tried to put them in an order that is similar to how my experience with God has panned out. I am only listing a few but my hope is that anybody who might read this blog is drawn to hear more and experience where they came from - but more truthfully - who they were meant to honor.
1. I been burned by the world - and it showed no sympathy - I would give my all and it stripped me of my dignity - stripped of my reason, my morals and my temper - stripped me of everything - I was in love with a stripper (Higher Love - Sho Baraka)
2. They say you came for the lame - I'm the lamest - I broke my life but You say You'll replace it - I'll take it (Just Like You - Lecrae)
3. Get loose - let me know you got that Truth - say "I'm not a slave" - don't take no abuse (Get Loose - Trip Lee feat. Lecrae)
4. And I'm quite your momma told ya not to trust just anybody - but tell me "Who is like the Lord?" - not anybody (I'm a Believer - Tedashii feat. Trip Lee)
5. I wake up - before I throw a beater on - fall to my knees thank the Lord for that new shalom (Hold Me Down - PRo)
6. Readin' the Word in morn' got me feelin' strong (Used To Do It Too - Lecrae feat. KB)
7. Until they put me in the grave I will not be a slave today (Fight Music - PRo)
8. Opposition in my face - tryna play defense - I'm bigger than this dude that don't make no sense - I Kobe Bryant on 'em (Kobe Bryant On 'Em - Sho Baraka)
9. My greatest satisfaction is makin' His name famous (Chase That (Ambition) - Lecrae)
